Lessons Learned the Hard Way: Dangers of Using Non-Licensed Cosmetic Injectors
Tuesday, June 03, 2008 - 02:32 PM - 7 months, 1 week ago   -  Newspaper & TV news  -  GLG News(sm): Healthcare
Any publicized adverse events following the injection of filler materials or BOTOX Cosmetic will draw attention to risks inherent in such procedures.  This will likely have a temporary impact on the level of concern and possibly result in a transient decrease in use amongst patients.  To minimize the risk of developing complications, these injections should be performed by a well-trained, licensed medical professional who is experienced in administering such injections.
Don't Get Sick After Hours: The Crisis to Improve Patient Care
Tuesday, June 03, 2008 - 07:03 AM - 7 months, 1 week ago   -  Newspaper & TV news  -  GLG News(sm): Healthcare
On nights, weekends, and holidays, senior healthcare professionals are rarely found in the hospital.  Problems arise from (1) too few qualified personnel available to address the needs of patients, (2) inability to obtain physician coverage for some specialties, and (3) inability to obtain and/or service medical supplies/equipment.  Therefore, innovative and creative solutions need to be implemented to improve the morality, readmission, complication, and error rates.  Failure to provide such novel approaches will lead to stagnation and further decline in the quality of care which will adversely affect the bottom line and increase liability exposure of the institution and healthcare professionals.

NABP Exposes Fake Candian Online Pharmacies
Monday, June 02, 2008 - 03:57 PM - 7 months, 1 week ago   -  Newspaper & TV news  -  GLG News(sm): Healthcare
The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) named 79 online pharmacies that are not safe for patients. Rather than a general “watch out” message, the NABP actually listed the web addresses for these rogue sources.  Many sites falsely claim to be “Canadian” pharmacies.  This was an important step, but much work remains to convince consumers about the dangers of online pharmacies.  Presidential candidate John McCain is also supports importation, but NABP’s warning should make him reconsider.
More Trouble for Cardinal Health
Monday, June 02, 2008 - 03:56 PM - 7 months, 1 week ago   -  Newspaper & TV news  -  GLG News(sm): Healthcare
A fifth Cardinal Health (CAH) location is now under investigation for allegedly failing to report “suspicious orders” of controlled substances from its Findlay, OH, warehouse. Cardinal Health has requested a hearing before the pharmacy board, so I presume nothing will happen until then. Penalties could range from a fine (most likely, IMHO) to revocation of its wholesale license (improbable but possible).

Abbott's ABT-089 --Much More than a Treatment for ADHD
Monday, June 02, 2008 - 04:38 AM - 7 months, 1 week ago   -  Newspaper & TV news  -  GLG News(sm): Healthcare
The data on ABT-089 in adults has been released with positive results, whereas the adolescent/childhood trial is on-going for this novel compound for ADHD.  The key difference is the potential to improve learning, not simply regain attention and lessen hyperactivity.
